ABSTRACT

The previous chapters made a foray into peeling back the layers from the issues surrounding theatre training, the contentious issue of theatre space, and the precarity of funding in Kolkata’s Bengali group theatre. In spite of the odds mentioned above, however, theatres all over Kolkata light up every night of the week with a vast spectrum of histrionic display. This final chapter of this section of the book is a summation of the various factors outlined above and how they come together to build the theatre event in Kolkata. We begin, however, with understanding the group structure and some of the general characteristics of this structure before delving into the rehearsal and the design processes of building the theatrical event.
