ABSTRACT

The experiences of Japanese firms in China are reminiscent of Southeast Asia in the 1970s and the United States in the 1980s and 1990s. This chapter discusses exit, voice, and loyalty strategies in these regions to speculate on what the future of Japan-China business relations might bring. Japan-China relations are not the only relationship with cold politics, hot economics or a social backlash to economic globalization. This chapter also provides comparative examples of the phenomena discussed in the book.
