ABSTRACT

Txillarre is the name of a remote farmhouse located in Gipuzkoa on the idyllic slopes of the Izarraitz mountain. Under Mikal Antza’s leadership, Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) had utilized their good relations with the IRA and Sinn Fein to contact the Center Henri Dunant for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva, an important and prestigious non-governmental organization with a great deal of international experience as mediator in different cases of violent conflicts. T When ETA blew the Barajas car park into pieces, the return to violence not only further poisoned Basque politics and society but would also impact heavily on the Basque Nationalist Party. ETA’s bomb at the Madrid airport had broken a sacred rule that the underground organization had respected throughout their long history. A broad majority of ETA activists had backed the resolution submitted by the leadership.
