ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 discusses the methodological perspective underlying the quantitative and qualitative analyses of the actual language used by EFL teachers. Firstly, corpus linguistics will be defined as the method of investigation, using the specific software tool Wordsmith Tools (Scott 2004, 2008). Secondly, the chapter details the building of CONNEcT (A Corpus of Native and Non-Native Teacher Classroom Talk), the 165,000-word corpus that was collected for the purposes of the current study in Belgian EFL classrooms and in England.
