ABSTRACT

The reporting and writing up stages of research are often missing in introductory books on either classroom discourse or DA. This omission is partly related to the widespread misconception that students already possess the writing skills needed to clearly and concisely write about their research. The discussion in this chapter therefore addresses what readers need to know when outlining and writing their research papers. The chapter begins with an overview of writing principles. The chapter then moves onto a discussion of writing issues that are specific to classroom DA research: identifying your objectives, reviewing the literature, and explaining your study. Also discussed in this chapter are presenting your data excerpts and key sections of a research report.
