ABSTRACT

This concludingchapter will return to the central questions put forward since the initial chapter of the present book: How can subnational industrialisation efforts be assessed within the developing world? What have been the implications of the ongoing State reconfigurations for developmental efforts? And, last, are these testimonies or lessons transferrable to other developing contexts? Overall, this chapter will summarize the findings and insights provided by the case studies in an effort to distil the main variables or factors that have been present in industrial transformations led by subnational governments in Mexico, the rest of Latin America and beyond.

In this order of ideas, emphasis will be put on the intergovernmental dynamics of developing countries, the shrinkage or expansion of policy space for subnational governments and the reconfiguration that industrial policy has undergone thus far in order to respond to the evolving challenges of the international economy.
