The tree is not just a tree but also a symbol for the tree of life of the person drawing.

The tree drawing corresponds to the drawing of a life story and the unfolding of a process of development. The tree has a maternal aspect of protection, sheltering and nourishment. The roots the basis represents solidity, firm-rootedness, or lack of stability. The crown may represent the expansion or flourishing of the personality. The tree is found as a symbol in many religions, fairy tales and mythologies. Every tree drawing is individual, unique and personal but as a symbol the tree is also universal and common to mankind. The unconscious records on the tree drawing in the form of holes, nests, cut branches, broken or absent roots, falling leaves, blossoming fruits, or flowers, a symbolic representation of a personal history. Animals, birds, squirrels, snakes, etc., may illustrate joyful or sad emotions.
