ABSTRACT

This chapter explores ways to critically engage nexus through immersive literacies such as play, drama, gameplay, or filmmaking. Nexus analysis not only deconstructs nexus; it locates actions with the aim of reconstructing nexus to make it more inclusive and equitable. Immersive literacies provide the basis for critical redesign that uses collaborative imagining to create slippages among nexus. Children’s social imaginations in contemporary times are embedded in fluid but also disjointed and fragmented cultural practices with multi-modal textual resources that are not static or tethered to one particular place yet carry attached histories and ideologies that become traces of multiple localities. Immersive literacies produce contexts as much as texts. Immersive literacies operate through collaborative and interactive experiences, often through digital media rich in multimodal resources.
