ABSTRACT

In this chapter I draw out the implications of the theory. First, I discuss how communal-cosmopolitanism addresses the issue of intergenerational justice and how the theory can be applied outside strictly political contexts—e.g., to non-human communities. Second, I address some possible objections. The main concern is the problem of “communo-fascism”: that according to communal-cosmopolitanism individuals have no value, or that the rights of individuals are completely overridden by the community and the individual subject is completely subsumed into the collective itself. This concern is easily addressed, and the potential theoretical gains more than compensate for any potential weaknesses.
