ABSTRACT

A primary care doctor might say that it is giving the body time to heal after an illness, injury, or surgery. A discharge planner might say that recovery involves not using drugs or alcohol and going to Abuse and Addiction meetings. Some might include going to an intensive outpatient treatment program or sober living house. The concept of alcohol moderation as a viable treatment was first introduced in 1976. The most egregious event that happened regarding the reports was that the Director of the National Institute for Alcohol Abuse and Addiction, John DeLuca, and his assistant, Loran Archer, gave their summary of the results. In the 1970s addiction researchers Drs. Linda and Mark Sobell conducted one of the most controversial studies regarding controlled drinking. An additional finding was that alcohol misuse and alcohol use disorders can be easily identified through screening and that less severe forms can be addressed through brief interventions.
