ABSTRACT

One of the challenges with alcohol is that many of its effects are not immediate. A number of these conditions take years to develop. This makes it harder to see the potential seriousness of frequent alcohol use. Alcohol affects every organ in the body, including the brain. The life expectancy of someone who drinks heavily is shorter than that of others who drink less. The effects of chronic alcohol use get progressive, while binge drinking causes many accidents. Depressants are a class of drugs that slow down the functioning of the brain by depressing the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS includes the brain and the spinal cord. It controls most of our main functions like taking in information, controlling motor function, thinking, understanding, reasoning, and emoting. Alcohol is one of the most popular depressants. People use it to unwind and relax.
