ABSTRACT
The Joshees’ return journey was difficult, and was further aggravated by Anandibai’s worsening health. Eagerly awaited details were supplied to Mrs Carpenter by Gopalrao, who proved to be as regular a correspondent as Anandibai. This chapter also sheds light on how, despite all achievements, Anandibai was to be reduced to the average submissive wife whose hard-earned expertise could be overruled at will by her husband.
