ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of Annadbai Joshee’s early life, her family background, her childhood, her marriage to Gopalrao Joshee, and the beginnings of her education. It also touches upon themes of her marital life, the status of women in nineteenth century India, the context in which Anandibai Joshee was introduced to her studies, and the resistance she met along the way.
