ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Anandibai Joshee’s further correspondences with her American connections, which contributed to her rediscovering everyday life with fresh perspectives. She continued to discuss Indian social customs, and her perceptions continued to be influenced through the knowledge exchanges. She displays a keenness to understand the world beyond her yet stay rooted in the Hindu customs and practices that formed the contexts of her experiences. As her circle of correspondence expanded, her letters reveal her own gender-egalitarian beliefs.
