ABSTRACT

Vail Mountain is the largest single ski mountain in North America, there is always a curiosity about the terrain that lies beyond the control ropes of the area boundary. China Bowl, Siberia Bowl, Prima Cornice, Teacup Bowl, No Name, Two Elk, O. S. Gully, and South Game Creek Bowl are names may hear mentioned in a lift line or over an afternoon beer at Donovan's Copper Bar. The skiing is, indeed, superb; but it is also extremely dangerous. Sudden "white-out" storms and avalanche threats add up to make out-of-bounds skiing risky business at best. Moreover, there are no chairlifts, no shelters, and no ski patrol. Check with the Vail Ski School if ski want to attempt these areas. Vail's Ski Patrol will need to advise ski on current conditions and policy concerning possible entry into these areas.
