ABSTRACT
In “Philosophical Tantrum: On Democracy, Art, Imagination, Hope and Other Big Words,” Gómez-Peña crafts a philosophical tantrum in response to the topics, “democrazy, art, imagination, and hope.” In Philosophical tantrum: On the impossibility of returning, imaginary cyborgs, joblessness and extreme culture, Gómez-Peña’s “conceptual daughter” updates a 2005 text to reflect 2018 realities. Philosophical tantrum #25: The post-democratic era according to El Mad Mex, Gómez-Peña’s most recent “tantrum,” has been excerpted and rewritten to be presented live as a keynote speech or as a pedagogical strategy to jumpstart public discussion in town hall meetings during the Trump Era. It is designed to enrage people and to inspire heart-felt testimonials. Strategically selected parts of this text also appear in Gómez Peña’s introduction to the accompanying pedagogy book.
