ABSTRACT

The present chapter identifies the specific characteristics of HT that make it more appealing than other similar groups to segments of Muslim diaspora communities in the West. In particular, this chapter compares HT to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), both aimed at reviving Islam. Three agency variables are used to conduct the comparative analysis, i.e. reflexive monitoring, rationalisation of action and motivation for action. While the first variable reveals the common ground between the three groups, the other two variables shed light on the differences and on the factors that most attract Muslims in the West towards HT.
