ABSTRACT

The present chapter explores HT as a structure for its members and reveals how HT provides its members with a new social identity that ensures their long-term membership. The chapter starts by analysing HT’s behaviour as an organisation and continues by exploring two sets of values conveyed to the members: terminal and instrumental values. The chapter also sheds light on the “fidelisation process” of the Hizbis (HT members) and the specific steps they undergo before becoming full members. This chapter concludes that two mechanisms foster the Hizbis’ long-term loyalty towards their organisation: self-efficacy and positive intergroup differentiation.
