Assessing your writers book
This chapter discusses how children’s writing develops through the years. It clarifies and describes the development of children’s writing in the dominant school genres, including discussion of story, personal narrative, memoir, information, explanation and other non-fiction writing development. It identifies the typical behaviours and writing outcomes for early, fluent, experienced and advanced writers and gives practical advice on how teachers can move children’s writing development forward and help them reach higher levels of academic achievement. It also provides advice on how teachers and schools can create writing portfolios and report on children’s progress to different stakeholders and how to write school reports for parents.
