ABSTRACT

This chapter provides information about seeking approval of the design for a loft conversion, under the Building Regulations. The focus is on the Building Regulations in force in England. The regulations in Wales are similar but diverging from the English regulations; the regulations in other devolved nations are different, and advice should be sought from local Building Control Bodies. Builders should notify the Building Control Body BCB when construction work reaches certain stages. It is advisable to discuss with their Building Control Officer the stages at which they would like to inspect on their loft conversion. To obtain a completion certificate, site inspections must be undertaken.
