ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses above-ground drainage work only. It has been assumed that the addition or relocation of a bathroom or room containing a WC will connect directly into the existing drainage system without the need to carry out any work below ground. The information below assumes that this is the case and provides information relating to the sanitary pipework, including pipe lengths, diameters, gradients, etc. and common issues that are encountered. The property may not connect to a main sewer. In this instance it may have a waste water treatment system, septic tank or cess pool. The Building Control Body holds the right to request an above and/or below ground drain test.
