ABSTRACT
This brief chapter on the life and achievement of Virgil may appear elementary to a more advanced reader. But it is integral to the reading the book undertakes, as it delineates the role he played, which proved to be highly critical and pivotal, especially coming at a critical time of building the European poetic tradition.
