ABSTRACT

The chapter argues that the organisation of education needs radical reform. It asks what is needed to deliver quality education for all and offers a blueprint for making education fit for democracy. It considers that reform is feasible and realistic if the resources now available in the digital age are properly used. It offers a case for overcoming current reluctance to embrace such reform and discusses some of the perils associated with the educational use of AI. It advocates strong commitment by educationalists regarding the development of AI educational resources. For this, a high view of education and what it means to be human is crucial. It involves moving away from the inadequate assumptions outlined in Part I which impede progress. The chapter finishes by confirming the crucial role of the teacher in the future of education.
