ABSTRACT

Mother Nature has a way of forcing expectant couples to acknowledge the profound roles they are about to assume. A swelling belly, puffy feet, morning sickness, exhaustion, and those first few fetal kicks are all part of the physiological experience of pregnancy that inevitably gives rise to the expectant couple's psychological experience. The psychological journey to parenthood has no precise timeline and does not follow a set path. For Stacey, the reality of impending motherhood set in when her pants became too tight. Her stomach had just started to bulge, and she was feeling the first few flutters of tiny feet. During pregnancy, there are the women who glow, the women who glower, and the men who love them. Some women truly enjoy being pregnant. Pregnancy is the ultimate embodiment of their womanhood.
