ABSTRACT

Negotiation is a critical skill set that sales executives need to master in the responsibilities in business development. Negotiation is both an art and a science. People with high degrees of emotional intelligence (EI) are traditionally matured negotiators and get through life and business issues more easily, because of that innate ability to negotiate. Sales and business development executives must be able to develop and master negotiation skill sets, in order to best represent their company in growth and expansion. Leaders with high degrees of EI will find these traits easier to manage. Some executives will require behavior modification, which is not easy and requires commitment and persistence. EI is a relatively new discussion point in corporate America coming from a group of progressive corporate cultural icons who have studied the subject in great depth. Developing and mastering the skill of EI in this very competitive and demanding business world we now live in has become increasingly vital.
