ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 consists of child development schematics and a detailed walkthrough of child/adolescent development at the age periods of 0–3, 4–8, 9–12 and 13–18 years. The development processes are schematized and structured around six main areas of development:

Emotions

Behaviour

Physical development

Relations

Sense of self

Attention/cognition

For every one of the six areas, tips and guidelines are provided on how to best support the development processes in that given age bracket. Chapter 3 is intended as a reference guide for parents on the challenges that come in supporting the child development processes, which needs care and mentalization, and how it’s done.
