ABSTRACT
Chapter 4 is a Mentalization toolbox, based on the latest knowledge about child and adolescent brain development and how children learn new behaviour. Based on the basic principles of having a creative, emotional tuned, image creating right side of the brain and a logical, rational, verbal left side of the brain – a similar toolbox is provided on how to first create contact and the redirect behaviour using the notion of right and left center brain activation. The idea is that children need both sides of their brain activated in order to become whole, well-functioning people, and that parenting must focus on creating learning situation that helps children integrate both parts of the brain.
