ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 focuses on the importance of understanding and be able to verbalize the parents own family history, mental baggage and the ability to see oneself from the outside as a parent. Our history, upbringing and mental baggage plays a part in our parenting ability and way of thinking as a parent. Helpful tools as; angels and ghosts in the nursery, triggers and re-enactment are presented. Likewise, models on how to present and base dialogue around the family as a group structure. This is to enable talks about the family as a system; hierarchy, borders in and outside the family and the parents own mental borders are presented as a way of creating a breeding ground for a mentalizing environment in the family.
