ABSTRACT

This chapter includes basic advice about how to approach and start teaching with design thinking. Teachers are asked to embrace a fail forward mindset through trying design thinking activities and learning from the experiences, without expectations that they will be perfect the first time. Failing forward is not the only mindset that will become important to teachers and students, but it may be the one that is most difficult to learn and embody.

The authors suggest that as teachers engage the process they will see that elements of the design thinking process and mindset development are useful in teaching and in students' learning. The skills, learning, and capabilities students can gain from design thinking are all critical skills for life in the 21st century.

The authors suggest that teachers step back, watch, and feel gratitude and joy when they see the spark in their students' eyes and their satisfaction upon learning.
