ABSTRACT

Based on the analysis in Chapters 3 and 4, the organisational structures of security in Cameroon can be established. Based on security issues and how these issues are resolved or alleviated, this chapter maps the security systems of Cameroon. The analysis of Cameroon’s security systems shows that their characteristics are consistent with those of a CAS. It is found that these systems are composed of a multiplicity of agents which are heterogeneous, autonomous, interdependent, organised hierarchically and interact through specific protocols. The behaviour of these systems displays non-linearity, co-evolution, anti-reductionism, adaptive behaviour, autocatalytic behaviour, self-organisation, redundancy, emergence and cybernetics. Using the terms, concepts and methods put forward by complexity science and resilience thinking, this chapter theoretically captures the actual systems involved in security production in Cameroon.
