ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to shed light on two important issues which serve as fulcrums of social policy development and implementation in society. These are namely the political economy and institutions. The chapter brings forth the conceptual and theoretical aspects of this section as they pertain to social policy when it is examined from a political economy perspective. It also employs a critical social theory lens for its examination. The political economy approach alerts us to the reality that it is not only technical, administrative or managerial factors that explain poor or effective social policy performances in regard to inclusive development.
