ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a description of types of items in general use in surveys that allow us to capture the information we want. First, examples of some of the many different types of items are provided. Issues in writing items are reviewed. This chapter concludes with tips for writing items and sources of more information. This chapter includes pros and cons of items and reference to sources of existing items and helpful sources on how to write items. Also provided are considerations of what to consider in writing new items, and what potential item creation and review steps might be included in creating a new survey.
