ABSTRACT

In this last chapter of this book, the TDMM framework is reviewed as it pertains to the two axioms of our book: theory and mixed methods. First, the guiding principles that undergird the development of the TDMM framework are summarized; second, how mixed methods designs can be implemented in the four stages of survey development (design, construction, pilot testing, and field testing) and administration to test theoretically derived hypotheses are recapped four stages of survey development (design, construction, pilot testing, and field testing) and administration; and finally, an example is used to illustrate how the TDMM framework might operate in a hypothetical research study. Key steps in developing and validating a survey using a theory-driven mixed methods approach are listed. Throughout the survey development and validation process, the plan we set out before we began to construct the survey is used as our guide.
