ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the major characteristics of the TDMM survey development approach are presented with a background of developments in validity theory. The salience of validity theory for survey research is explained. The interpretive-argument-based approach to validity embodies hypothesis testing and relies on theories to design validation studies. This book emphasizes the importance of theorization in survey development and research. This book takes an interpretive-argument-based approach to validity but incorporates a distinction between nomological and idiographic evidence to create a logical path for collecting and analyzing validity evidence.
