ABSTRACT

Theorizing a concept of rememory (Morrison, 1987/2004) through decolonial feminist methodology, the Introduction addresses the three framing questions of the book. How do you research haunting (Gordon, 2008) that demands you to remember those parts of the past disappeared and dis(re)membered from what (you think) you remember; and then to re-member them into a new past that you now must imagine? What methodologies are available to study a reality that exceeds and defies modern scientific ontology and intelligibility? More specifically, when your dead mother from Korea turns up everywhere in your work/life in the United States, brings out her secret and forgotten rememory, dismembers your own memory, and introduces m/others’ rememories, how do you work/live these through?
