ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses upon the strategies of elaboration and amplification as used in persuasive oratory. Persuasive oratory is not about presenting facts and figures objectively but about their strategic presentation. A persuasive orator elaborates and amplifies certain issues and hedges certain other issues according to his/her persuasive purpose. He/she also stirs the audience’s emotions by using various linguistic and paralinguistic strategies so that his/her message is received and interpreted in the same way as he/she intends. All these strategies are discussed in this chapter.
