ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the software industry in India with special focus on Indian IT industry in NOIDA. While the IT industry in NOIDA is focused on consultancy, its counterpart in Bangalore is largely product based. Aspects such as work environment, hierarchy, individuality, language, culture, preference for private-sector employment and conspicuous consumption are dwelled upon elaborately to understand the nature and characteristics of software professionals and the IT industry whose members qualify to become the new middle class in India.
