ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 discusses the reasons people marry and why educated women still remain in unfulfilling marriages. It talks about different types of marital unions and the arrangements people make to allow their marriages to function. It goes back to the time when marriage was used as a political device with 1ittle regard for the woman’s needs or desires. Also discussed is how marriage serves as camouflage for what were once called unacceptable lifestyles of gay men and lesbians, and how it allows them to fit into “traditional” society. Also included are the lives and stories of MWLW Eleanor Roosevelt and others who were forced to create separate lives.
