ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the information and strategies described throughout the book in a workbook format. It includes checklists and questions to guide women and clinicians alike in the development of an individualized plan for tackling scary thoughts. The eight steps highlighted in this chapter include: (a) acknowledging the presence of scary thoughts, (b) identifying categories of scary thoughts, (c) gaining awareness of biological and psychological vulnerabilities, (d) disclosing scary thoughts to others and identifying barriers to disclosure, (e) committing to self-help strategies, (f) exploring cognitive strategies, (g) developing acceptance, and (h) considering professional treatment options. This chapter aims to empower women to understand their experiences and take action to break the cycle of scary thoughts.
