ABSTRACT

This final chapter offers one last sentiment of encouragement for perinatal women struggling with scary thoughts. Anxiety is prevalent throughout the perinatal period due to pressures put on by oneself, family and friends, and society to be a certain mother. On top of this pressure, some women may possess a predisposition to anxiety. Women are encouraged to develop adaptive awareness of their anxiety and create a new dialogue within their heads, labeling their scary thoughts as “mind tricks” to reduce their power. Accepting the presence of anxiety and a willingness to tolerate it can also initiate one’s ability to start living life more fully. Through persistence, women can develop mastery over their scary thoughts and begin to experience joy rather than pure fear.
