ABSTRACT

The most successful authentic learning experiences are grounded in the best instructional practices. Traditional projects are easily found online, passed down from veteran teachers, or are relics of teachers' own schooling experience. Authentic learning experiences, on the other hand, require an intentional and concerted effort to link teachers' content and standards with the real world in a relevant context for their learners. As teachers' learners and technical experts develop a networked relationship, this creates a public relations opportunity between our schools and our community. The complexity of the challenge must allow for multiple pathways to emerge in their learning through inquiry. A complex problem is dynamic and multi-dimensional and could produce any number of learner solutions. Students can turn to these assets to help they and their learners co-develop the challenge. In doing so, students automatically create an authentic experience for their learners.
