ABSTRACT

American business persons also tend to act within strict time constraints. In parts of Latin America, and especially the Middle East and Africa, meeting times may be advisory only, with considerably varying times of arrival. This chapter explores the ways in which time itself is perceived differently among cultures, from those who live by the clock to those who live by the sun, from those who live in the past, to those who live in the future, and all those in between. Several researchers have found that companies that spend the most time offering guidance on quarterly earnings deliver significantly lower long-term growth rates than companies that offer guidance less frequently. The child had a call button, however, and could call back the experimenter any time. Time orientation is considered one of the most “fundamental values” of a society, and an individual.
