ABSTRACT

Students can flip through when they need inspiration, as it is a lot to take in after only one read-through. Read a picture book as an introduction to a specific focus of a Genius Hour objective. A book can help students understand the idea of “makerspace,” or a book can motivate students to brainstorm interests and ideas. Students share ideas, ask questions related to specific topics and units of study, or choose their own interest and focus. Students brainstorm the hows, whys, whats and whens related to their questions and topics. Students have open-ended discussion as they narrow in on their ideas. Students have many materials available to them. Students are able to ask questions and respond to questions. Students can reflect with the group or later with the teacher. Students can also demonstrate their learning by drawing pictures or writing a story about their discovery as they worked on their project.
