ABSTRACT

In Genius Hour, students give art to the world, share recipes, create websites, teach a craft, make music and produce films. When students create and produce, and then share their learning beyond the classroom walls, it contributes to the good of the world. Young people are enthusiastic workers and want to change the world, starting with their schools and communities. Genius Hour is the perfect time for students to act upon their passions and make a difference in the world. They are the future change-makers. Students really become inspired through heartbreak mapping. As a result, they have created some amazing Genius Hour learning opportunities. Children and teenagers want to be needed. They need to be trusted to learn and to improve the world. Students created playground-sized game pieces like chess, checkers and tic-tac-toe for students to play during recess. Learning happens in every subject area when students are given autonomy, have purpose and are given time to master learning.
