ABSTRACT

Just as the resolution of V7/V to V had a characteristic, though temporary leading tone in the resolution of ♯4̂ to 5̂, every other appliedchord has its own unique leading tone resolution. In V7/IV the characteristic Leading tone is raised 3̂, which isdiatonic in major keys and chromatic in minor keys. Conversely, the temporary subdominant is ♭7̂, which is chromatic in major keys, but diatonic in minor keys. The chapter shows this chord first in a major key and then in its parallel minor. The vii°7/iv is built on raised 3̂, which once again acts as the temporary leading tone, and has ♭2̂ for a seventh.
