ABSTRACT

Knowledge co-creation, by contrast, refers to the collaborative generation of new knowledge, solutions, or practices. S. Young and J. Perez described the use of a wiki in an international research collaboration in the music education field. The education researcher and business researcher could conduct an interdisciplinary study of management education. Software and electronic communication tools allow partners to build the relationships, and undertake the tasks, needed to work collaboratively. Collaboration can be difficult, and research is possibly one of the more difficult contexts for collaborative work. The characteristics that Huxham identified as collaborative inertia can be magnified when the stakes are high. One way that collaborative partners work together, whether they are co-located or dispersed, is through the use of shared online files. Free and inexpensive digital tools are available that can be used even when researchers are on a tight budget.
