ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces collaboration in the context of writing and publishing. The purpose of a writing project can come from internal or external sources. The interactive writing process can be organised and coordinated in a variety of ways. Writing groups and clubs whose members are working on individual projects abound inside and outside of academia. Time management is crucial for any collaboration, and when writing dedicating time to think, process, and produce is required. Collaborative writing can result in individual or collective outcomes. Reflective writing allows a place for self-monitoring and for making sense of the project as a whole. Writing is a very sensitive area for many people, so being able to give and receive constructive reviews of other’s work is essential. Outcomes of a collaborative process can be either individual, meaning each partner creates their own writing, or collective, meaning the completed piece of writing represents everyone’s contributions.
