ABSTRACT

The students will gain an understanding and ability to play string instruments at a rudimentary proficiency level, teaching string instruments in a heterogeneous setting in a secondary school, learning pedagogical strategies to address common mistakes at this level, and learning to produce good tone and left- and right-hand techniques on string instruments. In addition to traditional methods, some secondary-school teachers foster their string programs by seeking answers in alternative styles such as strolling strings, rock, and non-Western genres. As music students understand and appreciate the necessity of continuous practice on any major instrument, each string instrument requires the same dedication to daily practice. The members of the violin family, violin, viola, cello, and double bass, are purpose-built instruments for their acoustical properties: the strings under tension are excited and engage the bridge, which rocks back and forth on top of the bass bar and sound post.
