ABSTRACT

In string playing, before the bow change occurs, forearm, wrist, and fingers anticipate the bow change. The anticipated motion is a more subdued version of the Swimming Octopus motion. Once comfortable, install the roll on the instrument with a rubber band, insert the bow into the roll and repeat the following exercise in the middle 1/3 section of the bow. Since some players like to tighten their bows more than others, and due to permutations involved as the natural curvature of the bow, overall tightness and shape of the bow may vary. Gradually start drifting away from the frog with the continuous motion, making sure that the entire bow, including the upper third and tip, get an equal amount of rosin.
