ABSTRACT

Hold the bow at its balance point just like with the pencil. Perform the Air Drawing exercises by drawing imaginary shapes in the air: pluses, circles, any geometric shape or letter one can imagine. Once comfortable with the preparatory bowing exercises, pick up the bow from its midpoint with the left hand, and place students' thumb between the grip and the frog on the exposed portion of the stick. Place the bow on the D string at an equal distance from the end of the fingerboard and the bridge, perfectly parallel to both. The bow’s roots go back to pre-8th century Mongolia. Both equine and archery being an intricate part of the nomadic Mongol way of life, it is only natural to conceive to produce sound from a spike fiddle with the use of a bow. There are two versions of double bass bows: French, and German.
